RAMZAN ALERT BEWARE OF “CHANDA MAFIA” AND FRAUDSTERS MISUSING CHARITY

Public Urged to Protect the Sanctity of Zakat and Sadaqah
As the holy month of Ramzan approaches, citizens across Hyderabad and the State of Telangana are being urged to remain vigilant while giving charity.
Ramzan is a sacred month of compassion, generosity, and spiritual reflection. However, authorities and social organisations have observed that this holy period is often exploited by fraudsters and organised “Chanda Mafia” groups who collect donations under false claims.
These individuals frequently pose as representatives of mosques, orphanages, madrasas, medical emergencies, or relief funds. In many cases, funds collected from innocent citizens are misused, diverted, or channelled into unlawful activities.
Exploiting Faith for Personal Gain
Social activists warn that such fraudulent collection drives not only cheat donors but also damage the credibility of genuine charitable institutions.
In some instances, organised groups operate systematically — visiting markets, traffic junctions, residential areas, and business establishments with fake receipts and fabricated stories.
This exploitation of religious sentiments during Ramzan is not merely financial fraud — it is a serious moral and social offence.
Public Advisory: Donate Responsibly
Citizens are strongly advised to:
Verify the authenticity of any person or organisation collecting donations.
Avoid giving cash to unknown individuals on roads or door-to-door campaigns without proper registration proof.
Prefer direct contributions to recognised and registered charitable institutions.
Insist on official receipts with contact details and registration numbers.
Report suspicious activities immediately to the local police or concerned authorities.
Protect the True Spirit of Ramzan
Charity (Zakat, Sadaqah, and Fitrah) is one of the pillars of Islamic social responsibility. When given wisely, it uplifts the poor, supports education, feeds families, and strengthens community welfare.
But when given carelessly, it may unknowingly support exploitation, criminal networks, or financial fraud.
Community leaders emphasise that responsible giving is not only a civic duty but also a religious responsibility.
A Call for Collective Vigilance
By staying alert and informed, the people of Hyderabad and Telangana can:
Prevent financial scams
Protect genuine NGOs and mosques from reputational damage
Ensure that the truly deserving receive rightful assistance
Safeguard the sanctity of Ramzan
Let generosity be guided by wisdom. Let compassion be strengthened by caution.
