Welfare Schemes Must Reach Every Eligible Beneficiary

State Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar

State Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar stated that the government is giving priority to the welfare of persons with disabilities, the elderly, and transgender persons.

As part of the state government’s prestigious *Praja Palana – Pragati Plan (99 Days Programme)*, the Minister, along with Rajya Sabha MP Anil Kumar Yadav, Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender, District Collector Harichandana Dasari, and representatives of Nirman Organization, inaugurated the **Samata Kitchen** at the Collectorate.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the development of all sections is the true development of the state. He noted that the Samata Kitchen aims to create livelihood opportunities for persons with disabilities, transgender individuals, and other marginalized sections.

He emphasized that integrating the elderly, persons with disabilities, and transgender persons into economic activities will ensure inclusive growth and financial empowerment.

On this occasion:

* Financial assistance of ₹75,000 each was distributed to six transgender beneficiaries under the Economic Rehabilitation Scheme
* Battery-operated wheelchairs worth ₹1,18,500 were provided to five persons with disabilities

The Minister appreciated that the Samata Kitchen has already provided employment to six transgender persons and one person with a disability.

He further stated that, in line with the vision of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the government is committed to delivering welfare benefits to all sections and ensuring that every eligible person receives support.

Providing statistics, he said:

* Telangana has around 10.47 lakh persons with disabilities and about 10 lakh elderly (as per 2011 Census)
* Hyderabad district alone has nearly 2 lakh elderly
* Over 50,000 SADAREM certificates and 5,000 UDID cards have been issued
* Pensions are being provided to 29,902 persons with disabilities
* Identity cards have been issued to 404 transgender persons in the district

Rajya Sabha MP Anil Kumar Yadav stated that transgender persons are an integral part of society and assured support through MPLADS funds for the Samata Kitchen.

MLA Danam Nagender appreciated the increasing opportunities for transgender persons, noting initiatives like employment as traffic volunteers in the police department and emphasizing the need for greater representation in politics and administration.

District Collector Harichandana Dasari said that along with continuous welfare support, the focus is on sustainable livelihoods through initiatives like the Samata Kitchen. Skill development training based on individual interests is being provided to enhance employment opportunities for persons with disabilities and transgender individuals.
